Don’t feel bad for feeling

Feeling emotions can feel overwhelming and inconvenient. We offer wonder, "what's the point of this feeling?!"



Try on different emotions. Try to think about times in your life when the emotion actually served you. All emotions serve a function, and it's important to honor that.


  • FEAR-

    • critical to survival!

    • enacts fight or flight response

    • helps keep us safe

  • SADNESS-

    • slows us down so that we can heal and grieve

    • signals to others that we need support

    • helps us honor important losses

  • JOY

    • connects us to a zest for life

    • tells us to continue doing something

    • invites others to interact/ engage with you

  • ANXIETY

    • gets us ready to cope with future events

      • gets us into a state of alertness and preparedness

  • ANGER

    • Allows us to advocate for ourselves, set boundaries, seek justice, connect with our values

  • GUILT and SHAME

    • lets us know when we have acted in a way that doesn't jive with our values

    • cues us in to when we can /should apologize or take ownership

  • DISGUST

    • Makes you want to distance yourself from something that could be infectious, contaminated, or unsafe

    • protects our health
